Multi-client Data

A number of non-exclusive seismic surveys have been acquired and processed within the JDZ and surrounding areas, notably by PGS, WesternGeco and Veritas. A summary of the available data in the JDZ is provided below.

PGS
PGS acquired and processed some 3,000 km2 of multi-client 3D seismic data in 2002 over much of the northern area of the JDZ covering the southern compressional fold belt of the Niger Delta (providing near total coverage of Blocks 1, 2, 3 and 4 and part coverage of Blocks 5 and 6).

Structures highlighted by the 3D survey are characterised by toe-thrusts and anticlinal deformation in the south of the survey area with a less-deformed sedimentary sub-basin to the north, adjacent to the Akpo Field in Nigeria Block OPL 246. Numerous turbidite channel systems and DHI’s are observed in the survey, and allow the relationships between structure and reservoir to be evaluated.

WESTERNGECO
The WesternGeco STP99 2D survey provides the opportunity to assess the prospectivity of a significant portion of the JDZ. The survey consists of 2,723 km of 2D data and provides coverage over all blocks included in the licensing round.
In addition, a further 2,634 km from the EGWG98 and PROBE-89 2D seismic surveys provide coverage over the eastern shelf area. The area is also traversed by 807 km of WesternGeco Africa Marine Reconnaissance 2-D regional survey

VERITAS
Acquired under its regional VERNG98 and VERNG99 programmes, Veritas has a total of approximately 2,000 km of multi-client 2D seismic data in the JDZ.

The surveys provide coverage of (Blocks 1 to 7 and 9)

2D Nigerian Acquisition & Processing Flow

The various multi-client surveys available provide excellent coverage for all blocks available in the 2003 Licensing Round, as shown below in the map.

Surface Geochemical Exploration and Heat Flow Program

TDI- International, in association with Global Energy Co. Ltd. and the Joint Development Authority, is currently undertaking the 2003 Nigeria São Tomé & Príncipe JDZ Surface Geochemical Exploration (SGE) and Heat Flow (HF) Program.

Acquisition of this program was undertaken in June 2003, and analytical work is ongoing. Reports will be available in late July 2003.

The Tertiary delta continental margins of West Africa have been excellent environments for SGE and HF studies providing important information to constrain risk by delineating charge and oil types ahead of the drill bit. The heat flow measurements provide critical information to help constrain thermal maturity models in these deep water, frontier regions.

The program consists of the acquisition of approximately 75-80 cores and 15 heat flow sites selected by the Early Participants.
